What is the Delta Variant ?

The Delta variant (B.1.617.2) is known today to be one of the most contageous variants of SARS-CoV-2 and has outgrown other variants in a short time.  The variant is also thought to cause a more severe disease and in younger patients. The Delta variant is the most prevalent variant in most countries of the world.  The variant has several mutations in the spike protein that are different from the other variants of concern (VoCs) and is also referred to as “double mutant”.  In order to identify the variant, usually two PCR reactions or sequencing is performed.  Our assay allows to directly identify the variant in a single PCR reaction.

Besides an N-gene assay present in WT and allo VoCs, our assay specifically detects a mutation which is specific for the  Delta variant.

The assay can be performed on common qPCR instruments with detection channels of FAM and HEX.

Only one qPCR reaction is needed for fastest results for simultaneous SARS-CoV2 and DELTA variant detection. We also offer the assay in combination with the ALPHA variant, the Lambda Variant or the Mu Variant.

The assay is for research use only at the moment. CE-IVD is in progress.
