E484K-specific qPCR Assay Kit for SARS-CoV-2 Variants of Concern
The E484K mutation is considered to lead to a decreased efficiency of vaccines (“immune escape”) against SARS-CoV-2 and to be responsible for re-infections with SARS-CoV-2
The E484K mutation is originating from the B.1.351 (“South-African Variant”) and P1 (“Brazilian Variant”) but was also found in the B.1.1.7 (“UK-Variant”).
Our target-specific, one-step qPCR assay will produce a signal only from E484K-positive samples, but not in wt-samples. The assay effectively identifies E484K strains in a single qPCR reaction, no melting curve analyses is necessary. We offer the assay as a kit including control material, it can be used on any qPCR machine with channels for FAM and Cy5.
It should ideally be used after the determination of the N501Y mutation for which we offer an all-in-one quad plex qPCR assay-Kit.The left picture above shows the qPCR results of a wt SARS-CoV-2 sample. No amplification product is produced even after 50 cycles of qPCR. The right picture shows signal of our E484K specific qPCR assay from a sample with a E484K mutation.
The assay can be ideally be combined with our assay for N501Y & delta69/70 and for B.1.617 (Indian variant) for complete VoC determination.
The assay kit is currently for research use only, CE-labeling procedure is ongoing.
